Happy 100th Day of School! You showed up to school expecting a fun 100 Day party with decorations, hats, counting activities, and treats! However, when you arrived to your classroom, there were no decorations in sight – only computers on your desktops! Your teacher entered the room with a serious look and an even more serious message. “One hundred days of school means you are one hundred days smarter! You learned more math, science, history, and language arts. However, did you also learn teamwork, cooperation, and problem solving? Now is the time to find out! You have the next 45 minutes to work with your group and solve four locks OR you’ll get 100 minutes of homework tonight!”

This 100th Day Digital Breakout makes a great activity where the set-up has already been done for you! Students will work together using problem solving, critical thinking, and communication. Classroom team building will be key for each group’s success. In this breakout, students will complete a critical thinking problem for 4 major class subjects: Reading, Math, Social Studies, and Science. By completing the breakout, they will not only demonstrate their knowledge of the subjects on this 100th Day of School, but they will also show how much they have learned about teamwork and critical thinking skills as well!

I’ve never done a breakout before, is this still for me?
Yes! We have included a seven-page breakdown of what makes a breakout and how to run it smoothly in your classroom especially for students who have never used them before. Once familiar, you will be able to just post the website and let them work!
What is a Breakout?
A breakout is an activity where participants work in teams to search for clues to solve puzzles and try to “breakout” of a room or break into” a room or locked container within a specific time frame.
What is a Digital Breakout?
A digital breakout has its origins from both the popular escape rooms and the hunt-and-find games. However, instead of physically unlocking a box or door, participants will enter codes varying in letters and numbers into a lock (a.k.a. Google Form) which will then only unlock when all correct codes are entered into it.
