It is now moments before the ceremonious lighting of the famous flame in Ancient Olympia, Greece for the upcoming Summer Games. When the officials go to retrieve the torch from its safe, the alarm sounds and an error message is given.
The Organizing Committee of the Summer Games discovered that the safe codes for the torch were reprogrammed by Iwan Natorch, who is a notorious Summer Games fan. He has attended every Summer Games during his life and has always dreamed of being one of the torchbearers in the torch relay. Being turned down yet again as a torchbearer for the Summer Games, Natorch changed the codes on the safe and fled the scene.
Help find the clues to decipher the new codes on the safe so the torch relay can begin and the Summer Games will start on time this year!
In this Digital Breakout, students will work in teams to find clues in our custom breakout website: Summer Games Flame Fiasco!
Get students excited for the Summer Games with this Digital Escape Room! This makes a great lesson with the Summer Games, or summer sports as a whole! Students will work together using problem solving, critical thinking, and communication. Classroom team building will be key for each group’s success. The lesson will include history of the Summer Games and several significant facts about the event.
Directions:
This product includes everything you and your students need for a successful breakout experience! For each of our breakouts, we create a unique custom breakout website that you can access three different ways. In addition to the website, we include digital breakout background information for you and step-by-step teacher directions. These instructions will not only introduce your students to breakouts (if needed) but also to get them started on this unique activity! We included a teacher record / scoring sheet, as well as a student worksheet to give students space to work and record their responses. Oftentimes, when students try a digital breakout (especially for the first time!), they may need a hint or two to head in the right direction. I’ve never done a breakout before, is this still for me?
Yes! We have included a seven-page breakdown of what makes a breakout and how to run it smoothly in your classroom especially for students who have never used them before. Once familiar, you will be able to just post the website and let them work!
What is a Breakout?
A breakout is an activity where participants work in teams to search for clues to solve puzzles and try to “breakout” of a room or break into” a room or locked container within a specific time frame.
What is a Digital Breakout?
A digital breakout has its origins from both the popular escape rooms and the hunt-and-find games. However, instead of physically unlocking a box or door, participants will enter codes varying in letters and numbers into a lock (a.k.a. Google Form) which will then only unlock when all correct codes are entered into it.
